Join the Community: Sarah reminisces about her journey with the Bump to What Now events

My very first experience as a stall holder at BTWN was back in 2021. It was a completely new adventure for me, and I had no idea what to expect.

I already knew Maria, the organiser of BTWN. We had worked together before on her branding photo shoot, and we were also connected through the babywearing world —something I was really passionate about with my daughter.

When she told me she was starting up this event, I thought... you know what? I've never done an event before - maybe now's the time! Interestingly, at that point, I was also pregnant with my fourth child.

My first stall at the first ever Bump to What Now event

I had some prints ready, bought a few new things, and set up my very first stall. And honestly? It was very basic compared to how I do things now! Over time, I've really refined my setup to showcase more of me - but this was where it all started.

One thing I found really helpful when talking to people was using my own pregnancy as an icebreaker. I'd ask visitors for baby name ideas, which was such a fun way to start conversations. It really helped me connect with people and made the whole experience feel more natural.

It was also at this event that I met Jenny Harmer. She introduced me to colostrum harvesting - something I had no idea about, even though I was expecting my fourth child! I also had the opportunity to meet a number of local business owners who I'd only "met" online.

Looking back, that first event was such a turning point. It wasn't just about selling - it was about learning, making connections, and stepping out of my comfort zone. And honestly, I'm so glad I took that first step because I love attending these events now!

After that first event, I was hooked. It wasn't just about running a stall - it was the energy, the connections, and the whole atmosphere. But then, life happened! I had my baby and took some time off. I wasn't quite ready to jump back in as a stall holder for the second event, but

I still wanted to be involved somehow.

So instead, I came along for a couple of hours to capture some bumps and babies. It was at a new, bigger venue (Stanway Village Hall - September 2022) - really exciting to see it growing. It was great to step back, take it all in, and capture the vibe of the event in a different way.

I returned to more BTWN events at Stanway Village Hall, my stall evolving each time. For one event I was a sponsor too! I was beginning to notice familiar faces, their stalls also growing over time. Lots of chat about new banners and table cloths! We were there to showcase our

services but it has always been so much more than that - it feels like a team effort. Always encouraging each other with new ideas.

And now, here we are at this amazing new hall - Marks Tey Parish Hall. I actually visited it with Maria when she was planning everything, and it's just perfect for the event. It's so open and welcoming, with loads of facilities - there's even a park right outside, which is great for families. Plus, the stage is just ideal for the panel talks!

But the best part? The people. Every time I do this event, I meet the most incredible businesses and individuals. It's not just about finding new clients - it's about connecting with other passionate people in this space. And honestly, I've always felt so welcome here, like I'm truly part of something special.

BTWN has become such a big part of my journey. Whether I'm behind a stall, behind the camera, or just there to soak it all in - it's always been such an amazing experience. If you've ever thought about getting involved in events like this - whether as a business, a visitor, or even just to network - I highly recommend it. It's so much more than just a market. It's a community event.

See you at the next one on Saturday 31st May!
